DAVAO CITY – Nine people died, including a two-year-old boy whose body was found in a loam after being covered by sacks of rice, in a road accident involving multiple vehicles on Diversion Road at Guadalupe, Km. 5 in Matina Pangi, Davao City on June 11, Tuesday morning.
According to the initial investigation of the Talomo police station, the incident happened after a Wing Van truck–loaded with sacks of rice–lost its breaks and hit around eight vehicles before it crashed to the structures beside the road at Guadalupe Km. 5 around 9:30 a.m.
The vehicles hit by the truck are as follows: Toyota High Ace Van (BCN-661); KIA Sportage (KEP-343); Honda CRV (LGE-978); Mitsubishi L300 (AAG-4913); TMX sidecar (5013-LV); Avanza (ZSE-506); Suzuki AVP (PPI-830); and Multicab (JFG-233).
Police could not yet release the names of the eight victims, as some of them have not yet identified. Meanwhile, the truck driver was identified as Joel Sinampay Aras, 36, who hails from Camaman-an in Cagayan de Oro City.
