The Philippine National Police (PNP) vowed on Monday to run after the Kapa Community Ministry International and other alleged investment scam groups operating in Mindanao.
PNP chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde said that they are currently conducting case-build up against all the people and groups involved in investment scams that prey on various people in Mindanao, including policemen.
“It’s not Kapa alone, there are also a lot of groups which are operating in Mindanao and even in Region 8 (Eastern Visayas). We are now conducting case buildup against these groups,” said Albayalde.
“Probably this week, we will see police operations,” he added.
President Duterte earlier ordered the PNP and the National Bureau of Investigation to conduct investigation against Kapa which is based in Surigao del Sur.
Allegedly, the group is asking for monetary donations with a promise of good interest monthly.
But aside from Kapa, several investment scams were also earlier reported in central part of Mindanao under a modus operandi of encouraging people to invest with a promise of 30 to 50 percent monthly interest return.
In some cases, policemen and teachers became victims. The investment scam syndicates are also reportedly targeting retired government employees for their lump sum pension.
Albayalde said that the instruction to shut down investment scam syndicates and run after the owners was also ordered by Interior Secretary Eduardo Año.
