According to Phivolcs, the epicenter of the quake was traced 75 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso around 6:21 p.m.

The agency added that the tremor had a depth of 81 kilometers and was tectonic in origin which is caused by ground shaking primarily due to the sudden movement in the earth’s plates.

The quake was felt in some areas in Mindanao including Mati City with Intensity V, while Intensity IV was recorded in Davao City and General Santos City, and Intensity II in the city of Bislig.

Phivolcs also recorded instrumental intensities in the following areas:
Intensity IV – Alabel & Kiamba, Sarangani; General Santos City
Intensity III – Kidapawan City
Intensity I – Cagayan de Oro City; Bislig City

No damage has been reported during the tremor but three aftershocks struck the town following the quake with 3.2, 2.7, and 2.3 magnitude recorded from 6:40 to 6:59 p.m.
