P800,000 worth of illegal drugs seized in buy-bust op, three arrested
More than P800,000 worth of illegal drugs were seized from three suspected notorious drug dealers arrested during a buy-bust in Quezon City on Thursday afternoon.
Police Lt. Col. Joel Villanueva, chief of Quezon City Police Station 6, identified the suspects as Johairah Wali, 33, Edgar De Asis, 30, and Ernelito Reyes, 30.
According to Villanueva, the three men were behind the proliferation of illegal drugs in most parts of Quezon City.
After few months of monitoring the group, members of PS-6 Drug Enforcement Unit conducted a drug sting against the suspects in front of a fast-food restaurant along Commonwealth Avenue in Barangay Batasan Hills.
A policeman posed as a buyer and purchased P10,000 worth of shabu from the group which resulted in their arrest.
Confiscated from the suspects were the various size of plastic sachets containing shabu with an estimated street value of P820,000.
Police said Reyes was previously jailed also because of the illegal drug trade and was released after serving his sentence.
Follow-up investigation is ongoing to determine the supplier of the suspects and to trace their other cohorts.
Arrested suspects are now under police custody and were charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Alexandria San Juan)
Man arrested for stealing 10 cans of Spam
For just 10 cans of Spam, a man was arrested for allegedly stealing the canned goods at a supermarket in Mandaluyong City Thursday.
Police identified the suspect as Junard Dula, 21, of Barangay Harapin ang Bukas, Mandaluyong City.
Investigation showed that Dula entered SM Megamall B Supermarket around 7:30 p.m. and pretended as a customer.
Dula, who is unemployed, went to the canned goods section and took 10 cans of Spam luncheon meat worth a total of P1,580 from the display rack and hid it inside his backpack, police said.
He then casually walked towards the exit without paying the items, but a civilian security guard noticed him and asked for his official proof of purchase.
When he was unable to present the receipt, Dula was brought to the mall’s security office where the security personnel recovered the items from his possession.
A case of theft by shoplifting will be filed against Dula who is now behind bars at Mandaluyong City Police headquarters, police said. (Jhon Aldrin Casinas)
Coastguard member arrested for drug possession
Joint operatives of Rizal Philippine National Police (PNP) and Drugs Enforcement Unit ( PDEA) arrested a member of a “ Coastguard “ and seized 21 transparent plastic sachets of drugs in Binagonan, Rizal yesterday.
P/Lt.Col. Noel Campos, Chief Rizal PNP anti-illegal drugs identified the arrested as P03 Herbert Velasco y Escober alyas “Kuya”, of legal age and detailed at the Philippine Coast Guard.
The police report showed that Velasco was arrested around 4:00 a.m. during a buy-bust operation conducted at Tabubong tabi Tayuman Elementary School, Brgy., Tayuman, Binangonan, Rizal.
Velasco was caught “ red-handed” while in the act of handling the drugs to police who posed as a buyer.
Recovered was the Php 500 marked money used in the operation. (Madelynne Dominguez)
