BACOLOD CITY- Five branches of Peryahan ng Bayan in Negros Occidental were closed down by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Sunday for alleged illegal gambling operations.
These branches are located in the cities of Himamaylan and Victorias, and the towns of Murcia, E.B. Magalona, and Hinigaran.
NBI Bacolod head Renoir Baldovino said there was an issue over the deed of authority issued by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) to a company in 2014.
The PCSO authorized the company to open Peryahan branches in the province, but the company failed to renew the authorization in 2016.
In 2018, the NBI also closed down two Peryahan branches in the province for the same offense.
Baldovino said the 36 employees who were arrested during the closure operation were charged on Monday for running an illegal numbers game.
