The Philippine Coast Guard said all 50 passengers and five crew members were successfully rescued from the ill-fated vessel. No one was reported hurt in the incident.

The motor vessel was about 150 meters away from the Sta Ana Wharf when it “accidentally caught the mooring lines under water while conducting backing maneuver.”

The Coast Guard said this caused the motorboat to “forcibly squat during forward maneuver,” sinking it.

The group in distress was able to seek help from the Coast Guard Station-Davao, which immediately sent a team of rescuers to the area.
