DARAGA, Albay – Daraga acting mayor Victor Perete has been proclaimed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) after garnering majority of the votes against detained mayor Carlwyn “Awin” Baldo and Gertie Batocabe, widow of slain Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Rodel Batocabe on Wednesday afternoon.
Perete, who got 24,616 votes, was proclaimed by Comelec Daraga Election Officer Atty. Jasmin Cecelia Belarmino, Nancy Aguilar and Aileen Manzanilla.
Detained mayor Baldo placed third with only 16,565 votes while Gertie Batocabe got 19,859 votes.
Acting vice mayor Junjie Jaucian was also proclaimed as vice mayor after getting the highest number of votes at 27,954 over his opponents, Joey Marcellana and Joseph Espinas.
Jaucian is the son of the late Daraga mayor Jerry Jaucian who died of a heart attack on May 2018. He was replaced by Baldo through succession.
Baldo was arrested by police for alleged illegal possession of firearms, explosives, and ammunitions last January 2019.
Perete, then the acting vice mayor, took over as acting mayor.
Baldo was granted bail for P3 million and re-assumed his post as mayor of Daraga. He was again detained after Legazpi City Regional Trial Court Branch 10 Judge Maria Theresa San Juan Loquillano issued a warrant of arrest for frustrated murder and murder charges against him.
Perete took over as acting mayor while Junjie Jaucian took over as acting vice mayor.
Perete started his political career when he was elected as barangay captain of San Roque, Daraga and then elected as Association of Barangay Captain (ABC) president in 2013. #MatalinongBoto2019
