DAVAO CITY – A civilian active auxiliary who is allegedly the suspect in the massacre of a family in Marilog District, was killed in a police operation on Wednesday afternoon.
The slain suspect was identified as Randy S. Balagisi, auxiliary of the 16th Infantry Battalion assigned in Barangay Gumitan Patrol Base in Marilog District.
Report from the Davao City Police Office (DCPO), police operatives along with the 89th Infantry Battalion conducted a hot pursuit operation around 1:30 p.m. of May 15 to arrest Balagisi, the suspect in the killings of Liza Ponce, 49; Christine Ponce, 29; Ana Ponce, 14; and Rey Ponce, 5 in Sitio Guilon, Barangay Marilog on the night of March 14.
The report stated that after Balagisi was cornered, instead of submitting himself to the arresting team, he fired at them that led into a fire fight and death of the suspect.
Initial investigation revealed that Balagisi had been charged with raping Liza Ponce. It said the reason for the massacre of the Ponce family could be in retaliation for the rape case that was filed by the Ponce family against the suspect in September 2018.
