Family members of some outgoing representatives in Metro Manila dominated the congressional races.
Former Mandaluyong City Rep. Neptali Gonzales II of PDP-Laban, who ran unopposed, will replace her wife, incumbent Rep. Alexandria Gonzales, while, Joy Tambunting will be representing the second congressional district of Paranaque, vice her husband Rep. Gus Tambunting.
Quezon City Councilor Precious Castelo will take the seat of her husband, incumbent second district Quezon City Rep. Winston Castelo in the incoming 18th Congress.
The May 13, 2019 local polls also saw how siblings of incumbent and former representatives dominated the congressional derby.
Brothers Mayor John Rey Tiangco and Rep. Tobias “Toby” Tiangco of Navotas, and siblings Mayor Antonino Calixto and Rep. Emi Calixto-Rubiano of Pasay will be exchanging posts.
Nacionalist Party’s Camille Villar, daughter of senatorial race frontrunner Cynthia Villar, is set to assume the post vacated by her brother, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar.
In Taguig City, Cayetanos emerged victorious in the congressional races. Former Senator and Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano will represent the second district of Taguig, while wife, Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano will serve as representative of the Taguig’s first congressional district in the incoming 18th Congress. #MatalinongBoto2019
