ANGELES CITY, Pampanga — Brothers and incumbent officials of the province, first district Rep Carmelo “Jon” Lazatin II and City Councilor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr., defeated their opponents in the recently concluded midterm elections.
Lazatin Jr of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas is the new mayor of this highly-urbanized city. He defeated former Clark airport chief Alex Cauguiran of the Kambilan Party and incumbent Vice Mayor Bryan Nepomuceno of the Partido Abe Kapampangan in the mayoralty race.
Lazatin II, meanwhile, retook his congressional seat in the first district of Pampanga, beating Gilas coach Yeng Guiao.
The newly elected officials are scions of former mayor and congressman Carmelo “Tarzan” Lazatin.
As of Tuesday’s result, Lazatin Jr scored 58,955 votes while his opponents, Nepomuceno and Cauguiran got 45,479 votes and 26,006 votes, respectively.
Two other candidates for city mayor, Edel Morales, and Ryan David received 1,235 votes and 1,101 votes, respectively.
The mayor-elect vowed to continue the programs of his late father, including free medicines for the indigents, scholarship, and others.
He likewise assured to implement other programs like peace and order, vehicular traffic decongestion, livelihood, and education. #MatalinongBoto2019
