Anakpawis to join Bayan Muna in filing electioneering complaints against police, military

Anakpawis partylist Rep. Ariel “Ka Ayik” Casilao cried foul yesterday over the alleged illegal partisanship of the police and military in the recent May 13, 2019 national and local elections.

He said he will join Bayan Muna partylist’s filing of complaint against police personnel’s supposed electioneering.

“They are supposed to be neutral but they chose to sabotage the Makabayan candidacies, to the point of being lawbreakers themselves,” Casilao said in a statement, as members of Anakpawis party-list joined yesterday the protest action in front of Camp Crame, to decry the illegal intervention of government security forces in the polls.

Casilao reminded that the Omnibus Election Code prohibits “Intervention of public officers and employees”.

The Republic Act 6713 or Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, states ”political neutrality” and “commitment to democracy” as main principles, he cited.

“We actually have government armed forces that are ignorant of the laws, and supposedly law enforcers but in real life, are law breakers,” Casilao said.

He took note that personnel of the Philippine National Police Community Relations Group were confronted by pollwatchers in Manila and Caloocan, during their distribution of black propaganda materials against groups and candidates under the Makabayan coalition during the election day.

Aside from the black propaganda operations on election day, PNP Iloilo also launched its “fake news” campaign days prior the elections and spread the lie the Makabayan coalition party-list groups were disqualified by the Comelec, he cited.

“This 2019 elections has made a milestone in election intervention by the police and military. Under past regimes, they were covert, and then denied when exposed, but at present, they are boldly spearheading the open violation of the law, under a rule of impunity, pushing the envelope towards authoritarianism. The people must protest this threat to civilian democracy, and oppose the looming dictatorship,” Casilao said.
