BACOLOD CITY – A man hacked to death four persons, including his wife and sister-in-law, and injured three others in Ilog town, Negros Occidental, Tuesday.
Police said William Magbato, 52, used a bolo to kill his wife, Melerna Magbato, 55, sister in law Marianeta Magbato, 77. Ryan Olitan, 18, and barangay councilman Leonilo Balsomo, 55,
Magbato also wounded barangay councilman Jame Joy Tiaga, 29; Jessie Teroñes, 55; and Janice Elamparo, 34.
The suspect ended his attack only after he was shot by Balsomo and arrested by soldiers and barangay officials.
Police Maj. Norberto Barniso, Ilog police chief, said Magbato attacked his wife and his sister-in-law as they lay sleeping.
Then he turned on Olitan and three others who were his neighbors. Balsomo tried to pacify him but he was also hacked. Before he fell, Balsomo managed to fire at Magbato, hitting him twice on the arm.
Soldiers and barangay officials then arrived and subdued Magbato.
The wounded victims were brought to a hospital.
Police said Magbato had not eaten for few days prior to the incident.
The family has no idea if he had a problem.
He will be charged for multiple murder and frustrated murder.
