CAMP COL. RAFAEL C. RODRIGUEZ, Butuan City – A mayoralty candidate and four other persons were arrested for alleged gun charges during the intensified campaign of loose firearms and election gun ban, a flash report received by the Regional Election Monitoring and Action Center (REMAC)-Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) on Sunday.
“As a result of our intensified campaign to make this election peaceful and orderly while thoroughly implementing loose firearm drive, Caraga police field units arrested this mayoralty candidate and four others during separate operations last week, PRO 13 P/Brig. Gen. Gilberto DC Cruz told The Manila Bulletin on Monday.
Cruz disclosed that the arrested suspect was Jupiter Abulog, 40 of Barangay Sta. Cruz, Rosario town, Agusan del Sur province and a candidate for mayor of Rosario town of that same province.
Personnel of CIDG ADSPFU, CIDG RFU 13, Rosario MPS, PMFC 1st Coy, 15SAC, 1SAB-SAF and 1301st Maneuver Coy-RMFB13 implemented Search Warrant (SW) issued by Judge Lou A Nueva of Regional Trial Court (RTC) 10th Judicial Region, Branch 7, Bayugan City for Violation of RA 10591 dated May 9, 2019 that resulted in the arrest of the suspect around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday May 11), the region’s police chief said.
Implementing combined police force confiscated six caliber .45 pistols; one caliber .40 pistol; one M16 Rifle; several bullets and magazines of Caliber .45 pistol; magazines and ammunition of Caliber .40; and ammunition of 5.56mm and one magazine of M16 rifle during the operation, Cruz said.
The suspect is now under the custody of CIDG FRU 13 here for proper disposition and filing of formal charges in court.
Meanwhile, in Surigao del Sur, personnel of Tago Municipal Police Station (MPS), Surigao del Sur Mobile Force Company (SDSPMFC) and Army’s Bravo Company of 36th IB, arrested four other suspects of Barangay Libertad, Butuan City, through hot pursuit operation.
The arrested suspects were reportedly involved in attempted robbery and threatening the life of Barangay Capt. Hermilyn Silvoza Ugat of Barangay Anahao Daan, Tago town, Surigao del Sur.
They were cornered by the combined police and Army forces at their hideout.
Confiscated from their actual possession were two caliber .45 pistols, four caliber .45 steel magazines, several ammunitions, brown holster, and black sling bag, it said.
In a related development, another suspect was arrested yesterday by the Madrid MPS and Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office (PPO) in Barangay Manga, Madrid town, Surigao del Sur province by virtue of search warrant issued by Judge Catalina Shineta M. Tare-Palacio of Regional Trial Court, Branch 41, 11th Judicial Region, Cantilan, Surigao del Sur.
Confiscated from the suspect were a calibre-.45 pistol inserted in a holster; four long aluminum magazines for caliber .45 loaded with ammunition, three M16A1 rifle magazine loaded with ammunition, and an ELISCO M16A1 rifle with short aluminum magazine loaded with ammunition.
All the arrested suspects will be facing charges for violation of Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Act, Brig. Gen. Cruz said.
“Along with our security operations for the upcoming 2019 election in May, We have intensified operations against loose firearms to ensure that unlicensed guns will not be taken into the possession of criminal elements and will be used to intimidate and threat the voters this coming 2019 Midterm Elections,” the region’s top police official added.
