CEBU CITY – Fifty-one persons with disability (PWD) who are graduates from the various technical/vocational training courses at the Area Vocational Rehabilitation Center (AVRC) II were given pre-employment briefing seminar.
According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-7) regional information officer Leah Quintana, the pre-employment seminar prepares the PWDs on the various documentation, concerns on the usual recruitment process and the basic requirements for employment.
Quintana said the trainees graduated in Computer Technology, Commercial Cooking, Commercial Arts and Craft; Basic Cosmetology, Housekeeping Services, Dress and Apparel Technology and Massage Therapy.
Ma. Concepcion Encabo and Jean Marie Brual, from the Department of Manpower Development and Placement (DMDP) Cebu City discussed Employment Readiness while Rosana Velado of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) talked about Labor Laws and Regulations.
Quintana added that aside from discussions the trainees were taught in a workshop how to prepare a resume and application letter prior to employment. They were also given briefings on
the importance of self-organization, participation in policy and decision-making process.
The resource persons from DMDP and DOLE also discussed collective bargaining and negotiation based on Labor Standards and Employees Rights and Obligations to remind the PWDs to always deliver their duties and responsibilities in accordance with labor standards, Quintana said.
The AVRC is one of the DSWD-run centers that provides human resource development to PWDs through various skills enhancement program.
