A moderately strong 5.2-magnitude earthquake rocked Cagayan Valley late Sunday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The 5.2-magnitude earthquake was recorded around 4:59 p.m., originating 38 kilometers (km) northwest of Calayan in Cagayan province.
It was felt like a “weak” tremor at Intensity 3 in Aparri, Cagayan, while it was felt like a “slight” shaking at Intensity 2 in Laoag City in Ilocos Norte, and Claveria in Cagayan.
The moderately strong earthquake was followed by at least two smaller-sized tremors measuring 3.0 and 3.8 at around 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
The 3.8-magnitude quake was felt at Intensity 1 as a “scarcely perceptible” event in Claveria, Cagayan.
The aftershocks also originated in the same area.
