About 100 families were rendered homeless in a fire that hit a residential area in Dulong Herrera, Barangay Ibaba, Malabon City on Wednesday.
The Malabon City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said about 70 houses were affected in the fire. The estimated worth of damage was pegged at about P523,000.
Fire investigators said they have yet to determine the cause of the fire. However, members of the Malabon City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) said the fire was caused by a candle that was left unattended.
Investigation showed that the fire was first reported at the second floor of the house of a certain Flordeliza Carbonilla at about 3:19 a.m.
The blaze reached first alarm at about 3:29 a.m. and escalated to fourth alarm at about 3:56 a.m.
The fire was put out at about 6:05 a.m.
Fire investigators said the fire spread quickly because the houses were built of light materials.
They also said that they had difficulty taming the blaze because the streets going to the fire area were too narrow.
No casualties or injuries were reported in the fire and the investigation is ongoing.
