BACOLOD CITY – A late afternoon fire razed a total of 10 houses at Purok Mars, Barangay Singcang-Airport, this city on Tuesday.
Chief Inspector Publio Doctora Ploteña, head of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Bacolod, said the fire started from the house of a certain Gina Reyes at 4:51 p.m.
Its origin was from a room rented by a certain “Jr” who was not at home when the incident happened, he added.
Firefighters had difficulty penetrating the area when they responded because of the narrow passageways.
Nine other households affected by the fire were those of Andrei Oracoy, Reynaldo Leonidas, Eda Dadivas, Veronica Leonidas, Bok-bok Leonidas, Tessie Cardiente, Rodel Abucay, Ernita Despi, and Ramil Palalon, based on the record of the BFP.
Arson investigators are eyeing faulty electrical wiring as the cause of the blaze.
The BFP declared fire out at 5:25 p.m. No casualties were reported.
A woman was brought to a hospital for hypertension. Her house was not damaged by the blaze.
Ploteña said damage to property was estimated at P180,000.
The fire victims were temporarily sheltered at the purok’s chapel.
Over the weekend, 21 houses were also razed by fire at Purok Kabulakan Dos, in the said village, after a man reportedly intentionally burned his partner’s house due to a misunderstanding. It left an estimated damage of P200,000.
