MRT3, LRT1 &2 resume operations

By MB Online

The Metro Rail Transit – 3 (MRT-3), Light Rail Transit 1 (LRT-1) and LRT-2 have resumed their normal operations on Tuesday.

“With structural and track inspections completed for LRT-1, LRT-2, MRT-3, and PNR, all lines were found fit for operations,” the Department of Transportation (DOTr) said in an advisory.

Train operations for MRT-3, LRT-2 and LRT-3 were cancelled Monday afternoon following a powerful 6.1-magnitude earthquake that struck Metro Manila and other areas in Luzon.

Regular passenger service for all train systems resumed by 5:30 a.m. with train deployments starting at 4:30 a.m., it added.

“We thank our passengers’ patience and understanding for our suspension of operations after the earthquake yesterday afternoon, as we followed NDRRMC incident response protocols and conducted necessary structural inspections to ensure safe passenger operations,” it added.

DOTr also ensured that they will not risk the safety of the commuters. “The security and welfare of the riding public stand paramount.”

LRT-1 announced in a Twitter post that its trains were fully operational as of 5:30 a.m.

It added that tracks, catenaries, buildings, and facilities inspection were completed and confirmed safe.

Meanwhile, in a statement sent to reporters by Asec. Goddess Hope Libiran, Communications director of the DOTr, the LRTA clarified that the crack on the parapet wall of LRT-2 Recto Station photographed and posted on Facebook by a certain Pat Anthony Padua “is pre-existing and has been observed to be not structural in nature (e.i, not a structural crack).”

“Instructions to rectify has already been given to LRT-2’s Maintenance Provider before the line’s Holy Week maintenance shutdown last week,” the statement added. (With a report from Jhon Aldrin Casinas)
