BACOLOD CITY – A councilor and human rights advocate was shot to death by a motorcycle-riding assailant in Barangay Alimango, Escalante City, Negros Occidental, Monday.
Killed was Bernardino Patigas Sr., 72, a resident of Alimango.
Police Capt. Ronald Santillan, deputy city police chief, said Patigas was riding a motorcycle home when the assailant, who was trailing him, pulled alongside and fired at him.
The gunman who was wearing a cap, bonnet and jacket then rode away.
Police recovered from the crime scene two .45 caliber slugs.
Patigas was secretary general of the Northern Negros Alliance of Human Rights Advocates (NNAHRA).
