Army troopers killed two suspected communist rebels in a 30-minute clash in Calatrava town of Negros Occidental, the military said.
The clash also resulted in the wounding of a certain Staff Sergeant Gardote.
The military report stated that the encounter erupted at around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Sitio Bamwa Binatay in Barangay Marcelo.
Troops from the 79th Infantry Battalion launched the attack against at least 12 communist rebels spotted in the area.
The rebels fled after 30 minutes of gun battle, leaving behind the bodies of their two companions.
The bodies were recovered along with an M16 rifle and an AK 47.
