Man stabbed dead in Caloocan, suspect arrested

A 21-year-old man was arrested hours after he killed a 23-year-old man in Barangay 48, Caloocan City on Sunday.

Police identified the victim as Ronel Languita, welder, resident of Barangay Bungad, Quezon City; and the suspect as Joshua Flores, welder, resident of Tondo, Manila.

According to a witness identified by police as Rogie Zabala, the two were having a heated argument along J. Teodoro Street in Caloocan City at about 3:15 a.m.

Then, Flores drew a knife and stabbed Languita before fleeing on foot towards Rizal Avenue Extension.

The victim was rushed by barangay officials to Caloocan City Medical Center but was pronounced dead-on-arrival at about 3:41 a.m.

Flores was later arrested in a follow-up operation conducted by elements of the Police Community Precinct-2.

The suspect is now under police custody and will be facing appropriate charges. (Minka Klaudia Tiangco)

Drug peddler shot dead in shootout with cops in Manila

A suspected drug peddler was gunned down by police in a shootout in Tondo, Manila last Sunday evening.

Police said they went after the suspect following a tip from a concerned citizen that he was carrying a handgun along Mata corner Dahlia Streets.

Upon arrival at the alluded place, the fleeing suspect suddenly fired shots against the police that resulted to a gun battle.

He was finally cornered and got killed at Lacson corner Avocet Street at about 6:45 p.m.

A Colt caliber 45 with a magazine and four live ammunition and two fired cartridges of the said firearm were recovered from the crime scene.

Authorities also seized five sachets of “shabu” from the fatality, identified as Marvin Arsenio, 38, married, and resident of Mel Alcalde Street in Tondo District.

It was learned that he was an ex-convict.

He also ranked one in their barangay’s drug watch list.

Moreover, police said he was popular in selling illegal drugs in their area. (Ria Fernandez)
