Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Police Brig. Gen. Joselito Esquivel, Jr. identified the suspect as Abuhair Kullim Indal, 32, who used the aliases of Annual Dasil and Abu Khair.

Operatives of QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, Philippine National Police Intelligence Group, Talipapa Police Station (PS-3), and the Special Weapons and Tactics Team arrested Indal at his house in Salam Compound, Barangay Culiat, Quezon City around 4:25 p.m. on April 12.

Police authorities, armed with an arrest warrant, stormed Indal’s house. Upon seeing the approaching police force, Indal ran back to his room where he took a hand grenade hidden under his pillow. Before he could throw the grenade, police overpowered him and confiscated the explosive.

Indal was reportedly one of the trusted men of ASG commander Furuji Indama, and a former member of ASG Sub Leader Nur Hassan Jamiri who surrendered last March 28, 2018.

He also allegedly participated in the kidnapping of 15 people at the Golden Harvest Plantation in Barangay Tairan Lantawan, Basilan last June 11, 2001 which was led by the late ASG Leader Isnilon Hapilon who was among those behind the five-month long siege of Marawi City in 2017.

The report added that Indal allegedly engaged military forces in an encounter sometime in August, 2001 in the area of Kumalarang, Basilan where he was wounded on his right arm.

Hon. Judge Leo Jay Principe of the Regional Trial Court (RTC), 9th Judicial Region, Branch 1 in Isabela City, Basilan issued the arrest warrant against Indal for criminal case numbers 3432, 3551, 3552, 3566, 3567, 3569 and 3570 for Kidnapping and Serious Illegal Detention, on Jan. 28, 2008.

Police said additional charges for violating RA 9516 or the Unlawful Possession of Explosives in relation to the Omnibus Election Code and Resistance and Disobedience to Agent or Person in Authority will be filed against Indal.
