Young girl’s killer slain in Tondo shootout with Manila cops

A man, who killed a young girl in Tondo, Manila he mistook for being one of his drug clients, was killed by police in a buy-bust operation in Tondo, Manila Sunday early morning.

Manila Police District (MPD) chief P/Brig. Gen. Vicente Danao, Jr identified the suspect as Jade Ayson, 46, resident of Building 24, Permanent Housing, Vitas Street in Balut, Tondo, Manila. He died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds in the body.

Investigation showed that a buy-bust operation was conducted by the police inside Building 18, Unit 323 Permanent Housing, Tondo Manila at around 1:30 a.m. on April 14.

Police said the suspect sold shabu to a police poseur buyer. Sensing that he was transacting with anti-narcotics operatives, the suspect pulled out his gun and fired at the poseur buyer.

When the police cornered the suspect, Ayson pulled out his handgun anew, and fired at the officers, resulting in a gun battle.

Recovered from the crime scene were a caliber .38 loaded with five bullets, one spare magazine loaded with seven bullets, seven live .9 mm bullets, one .38 empty shell, one deformed slug, two sachets of suspected shabu from Ayson’s left pocket and a pink pouch containing five sachets of suspected shabu.

On April 7, Danao said the suspect shot Ronalyn Cordero, 17, a vendor, with unknown type of firearm while she was eating with her cousin in front of their house along Dayao Street in Barangay 129, Zone 11 at around 3:45 a.m. on April 7.

The victim sustained a gunshot wound in the back and was rushed to the Tondo General Hospital where she later died.

Danao said the victim was mistakenly identified by the suspect as alias “Juana B” who owes him money for the shabu he sold to her.

“We learned that “Juana B” bought drugs from the suspect but she did not return anymore. She did not pay. In other words, she committed estafa. The gunman thought she was the victim…as they have similarities, the same age, and the same height,” he said. (Erma Edera)

The suspect’s lookout, Alfie Cubelo, 30, was also arrested at 10 p.m. on April 7.
