All the six million customers of Manila Water Company Inc. will be charged lower, with those severely hit by the company’s unprecedented water service interruption not needing to pay anything at all this month.
In a press briefing today, Manila Water President and Chief Executive Officer Ferdinand Dela Cruz announced that the company will implement a one-time voluntary bill waiver scheme for all its more than six million customers.
To reflect in the April billing, Manila Water is waiving the fees for the first 10 cubic meters (cu.m) consumption of all its customers this month— be it domestic, lifeline, commercial and industrial users. A typical household consumes 30 cu.m per month and pays about P600.
For those that were severely hit by the water interruption, or those who experienced more than seven days of low to no water supply, they do not have to pay Manila Water a single centavo this month.
Dela Cruz said the company was still validating its data, and will soon come up with the list of barangays that will be considered severely hit.
“We’ve been working overnight to prepare for this. We’re still apologizing for widespread inconvenience we have caused,” Dela Cruz said.
Manila Water recently faced a shortage in its water supply as La Mesa Dam reached its critical level, forcing the company to implement days of supply interruption among its 1.2 million customers.
Manila Water has six million customers and provides water to 23 cities and municipalities in Metro Manila and Rizal. These include Mandaluyong, Makati, Pasig, Pateros, San Juan, Taguig, Marikina, and parts of Quezon City and Manila. The towns of Angono, Baras, Binangonan, Cainta, Cardona, Jalajala, Morong, Pililia, Rodriguez, Tanay, Taytay, Teresa, San Mateo and Antipolo in the province of Rizal are also part of the East Zone.
Right now, 97 percent of the affected areas already have water supply, albeit, some with low pressure.
