Four New People’s Army (NPA) rebels recently surrendered to government troops in Misamis Oriental, the military Monday disclosed.

It was learned that the Army’s 58th Infantry Battalion received the four NPA members coming from the Guerilla Front “Toto” of the NPA’s Sub-Regional Committee 1, North Central Mindanao Regional Committee at the battalion headquarters in So Migbanday, Brgy. Poblacion, Claveria, Misamis Oriental on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.

The four NPA surrenderees were identified as Jan-jan Elay Senagonia alias Jun-Jun, Robert Cayasan alias Shooter and husband and wife Rejie Solinta Cayasan alias Jekard and Catherine Daganan Pinahan alias Em-Em.

The four surrenderees were on the leadership of the NPA platoons as Vice-Platoon Leader, Squad Leader, Team Leader and Squad Medic, respectively.

They claimed that the hardship within the NPA units are already unbearable now that support from their masses is minimal. They also state that the relentless military operations multiply the fear, hardship, and hunger that they are experiencing.

The NPA, they said, also continue to exploit and recruit minors as alias Jun-Jun and Em-Em were recruited when they were 15 and 17 years of age.

“The NPA’s has been deceiving us for so long and we come to realize that there is no peace in their organization. The NPA organization has no equality as they claim it to be because it is only our commanders who were treated best because the money is in their possession and food is in their control; while, we, the ordinary members are suffering the most hardships,” Casayan said.

“They claim that the military were human rights violators and we will be treated harshly if we surrender but we now have seen in our very own eyes that our former comrades who surrendered ahead were treated with respect and assisted by 58th IB with their needs,” he added.

Lt. Col. Roy Anthony O. Derilo, 58th IB Commander, said the four surrendering shows that the NPA members are already tired and suffering in their organizations and the communities are reporting the NPA presence.

He added that th3 NPA are continuously violating the provisions of the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and Republic Act 7610 (Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act) as alias Jun-Jun

and alias Em-Em were recruited when they were minors.

“To every Filipino, be critical and do not be deceived by the propaganda of the NPA and their organizers. To those still in the NPA organizations, we are encouraging you to surrender and the 58th IB will ensure your enrollment on E-CLIP and your reintegration to your community,” he said.
