The two-story evacuation center was turned over Thursday to the San Jose de Buenavista local government under Mayor Elmer Untaran by Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-6) Assistant Regional Director Al Fruto. It has rooms, bathrooms, toilets, kitchen, dining area, and storage rooms.

Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao said the evacuation center can serve displaced people from any of the province’s 18 towns during times of calamities.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) also organized Thursday the 1st Antique Provincial Summit on Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Climate Change Adaptation. OCD Assistant Secretary Casiano Monilla and Jose Roberto Nuñez underscored how local communities, particularly in barangays, should approach disaster resiliency proactively.

In her keynote speech, Senator Loren Legarda emphasized key points—managing risks, managing disasters, letting science-based work guide policies, pushing for disaster-literate communities, and environmental protection.
