Government troops seized a speed boat used by the notorious Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in the island of Simisa, Sulu on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.
A military report disclosed that the relentless and continuous joint operation conducted by the Marine Battalion Landing Team – 3, Naval Task Group/Philippine Marine Ready Force – Sulu, and Joint Task Force-Sulu resulted in the recovery of the speedboat believed to be the “get-away” vessel of the notorious Abu Sayyaf Group in the island of Simisa, Sulu.
The green speedboat, recovered at Sitio Kabahayan (local name “Suba Batang”), Brgy. Bakkaan, Simisa (local “Simussah”) Island, Banguigui, Sulu, was the result of the continued focused military operations conducted by the Marines in the archipelagic southern part of the Philippines.
Sealed and cornered in the mangrove areas, the ASG cannot utilize the said watercraft to get out of the island.
The sustained operation already resulted in the demise of Pfc. Gilbert B. Alma last March 17, 2019. The ASG, on the other hand, suffered an undetermined number of casualties.
The Marines also recovered rifle magazines and ammunition to include personal belongings and other subversive documents of the enemy.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) through the Philippine Marine Corps will continue to pursue the lawless elements inflicting terror to the island chain of Sulu and will remain committed to their mandated task of securing and protecting the sovereignty of the nation.
