Various health centers and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) from Misamis Occidental availed of the free calibration offered by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Region 10 in a recent Science and Technology Caravan in the province.

The Regional Metrology Laboratory (RML) of the DOST-10 Regional Standards and Testing Laboratories (RSTL) calibrated a total of 62 hanging-type weighing scales with a capacity of 25 kilograms each.

“Mga timbangan to nga gi issue namo (City Nutrition Office) to all Barangay Nutrition Scholars kay sila man ang in charge sa operation timbang ug weight monitoring sa 0-59 months children. Ang uban mao gigamit sa health centers (Those are weighing scales that we ( the City Nutrition Office) issued to all Barangay Nutrition Scholars, the latter are the ones in charge of the Operation Timbang and Weight Monitoring of 0-59 months children. Health Centers also used some of those scales,” Lelita Navaraez, City Nutrition Officer of LGU-Ozamiz, said.

According to Navarez, they were glad to know about the S&T caravan due to their urgent need for calibration.

“Thank you jud kaau misugot mo mo avail me sa free calibration. The scales were stamped with calibration stickers during the caravan as proof of calibration.

Aside from the stickers, the Misamis Occidental Health Centers and BNS will receive Calibration Certificates per scale from the DOST-10 RSTL.

DOST-10 RSTL also offered free water testings on pH, color, and turbidity to a total of 17 households during the caravan.

The Science and Technology Caravan is a three-leg activity conducted by DOST-10 Department. The first leg was held at the Municipal Civic Auditorium, Linamon, Lanao del Norte last February. The second and third will be in Camiguin in May, and Misamis Occidental in August, respectively.
