The Department of Health (DOH)-Calabarzon reminded lifeguards in the region to practice healthy lifestyle and maintain a strong physique, as they are expected to provide safety and security to tourists who will engage in water activities during the summer season.
“Refrain from excessive consumption of cigarettes and alcoholic drinks which can affect your perception and awareness while on duty,” said Regional Director Eduardo Janairo.
“Presence of mind is very important because you are at the forefront of preventing accidents and saving lives,” he added.
Janairo said that preventing water incidents and ensuring the safety of all individuals going to the beaches this summer season are very important.
“Every establishment with pools and beaches must have at least one lifeguard to immediately address any emergency situation and provide first aid treatment including basic life support service,” said the health official.
Recently, 32 individuals underwent lifeguard training in the region. There are now 70 trained lifeguards in Calabarzon, said the regional office.
Lifeguard rescue equipment, including a rescue can, a whistle and two sets of uniform, were given by the regional office to the trainees who successfully completed the training course.
“We will continue to provide more lifeguard training until all accredited establishment in the region can have their own duly licensed lifeguard to man their pools, beaches and resorts. We will not only promote health but safety as well,” assured Janairo.
