Army shootfest opens in Camp O’Donell

The Philippine Army Marksmanship Assessment and Evaluation (PAMAE) 2019 was formally declared open during the opening ceremony held at the AARM Grandstand, Camp O’Donnell, Capas, Tarlac, on Thursday.

Major General Rizaldo B. Limoso, the Vice Commander of the Philippine Army, was the Guest of Honor and Speaker at the start of the competition.

Colonel Leomar Jose M. Doctolero, the Commandant of Marksmanship Training School, presented the 73 participants who will be competing on the event.

He said 33 of the participants are from Luzon, 15 shooters are from the Visayas while 25 other participants are from Mindanao. The participants were the winners for the Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao leg qualifying rounds conducted simultaneously and participated in by all Philippine Army Major units.

The Luzon leg qualifying round was conducted at the Headquarters, Training and Doctrine Command,  the Visayas leg qualifying round was conducted at Headquarters 3rd Infantry (Spearhead) Division, while the Mindanao leg qualifying round was held at Headquarters 1st Infantry (Tabak) Division.

“Such programs are proof that our organization is indeed moving forward in our journey towards genuine transformation,” Limoso said.

“This activity is in line with the thrust of the Philippine Army which is to enhance the warfighting competency of our soldiers in order to improve the preparedness and effectiveness of our operating units in mission accomplishment. Marksmanship is one of the basic skills the soldier must possess,” he added.

PAMAE serves as a platform to select the best shooters in the entire Philippine Army organization and conducted purposely to scout potential shooters for the Philippine Army Shooting Contingent who will participate in local and international shooting competitions such as the Asian Armies Rifle Meet (AARM).

This competition includes pistol match for men and ladies category, rifle/carbine match and machine gun match.

The traditional ceremonial shoot was led by Limoso who was assisted by TRADOC Commander Maj..Gen Roy T. Devesa after the opening program.
