BUTUAN CITY – A 4.6-magnitude earthquake jolted Surigao del Sur province Friday morning, March 15, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
However, the provincial disaster risk reduction and management council in Surigao del Sur reported no damage or injury after the Friday morning tremor struck in that Pacific Ocean-facing province of Surigao del Sur.
In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the earthquake was recorded at 7:02 a.m. with the epicenter plotted 18 kilometers northeast of Cantilan town, Surigao del Sur province.
The tremor had a shallow depth of only seven km, the state agency said.
Earlier, a 4.2 magnitude earthquake was recorded at 4:58 p.m. on Thursday (March 14).
The epicenter was located 127 km northeast of nearby town of Hinatuan, also of Surigao del Sur province, with a depth of 33 km, it said.
The two tremors were tectonic in origin and no aftershock was raised by the agency.
