CAMP GEN. PANTALEON GARCIA, IMUS, Cavite — A man died on Wednesday and 11 others, including four minors, were injured when a Mitsubishi Montero SUV accelerated and plowed into a kiddie fun area at a supermarket in Carmona, police reported Thursday.
All the victims were at the fun center’s alley when the car driven by Rosendo De Los Reyes Mamucod, 66, a resident of Villa Sorteo, Barangay Milagrosa, Carmona, smashed into the center.
Mamucod was arrested by police.
A report released by the Carmona police identified the fatality as Rollen Aloria Sartiel, 22, a resident of Barangay Tres, Carmona.
Sartiel was declared dead at Carmona Medical Center where the other victims were also brought.
PO3 Marlon I. Ramirez identified the injured as Myrna Canderia Doctor, 51; Nina Marie Sacayan Morello, 27; Glennis Belino Gianan, 40; Jinky Fanner Oborza, 27; Rhalf Fanner Oborza, 4; Florabel Laurito Medina, 40; Mark Anthony Binaohan Gonzales,34; Mark Leo Ace Marson Gonzales, 4; Jazz Gonzales Lano, 6; Cian Laurora Sartiel, 3; and Emma Hunsay, 74.
The victims are mostly residents of Carmona. At least three are from San Jose. General Mariano Alvarez (GMA), Cavite, and Bulihan, Silang, Cavite.
Based on the police report, Mamucod was parking his SUV with license plate UHO 229 at the PWD (Persons With Disabilities) slot near the Fun House in Walter Mart building at 1:25 p.m. Wednesday.
Mamucod said the car suddenly surged forward. Security guards and a team from the Carmona Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office responded and brought the victims to the hospital.
Police are still determining if the incident was a case of driver’s error or sudden unintended acceleration (SUA).
Ramirez withheld other details on the incident while it is being investigated.
He said Mamucod, who was detained by police, will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, multiple physical injuries and damage to property. (Anthony Giron)
