A Commission on Elections (Comelec) official urged the voting public to watch senatorial debates so they can make informed choices come election day.
“Let us watch the candidates’ debates – that is one way for us to get information and knowledge that we will need to make the right choices for the upcoming elections),” Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said Pilipino in a tweet.
The Comelec official lamented that more and more people, both candidates and voters, believe that platform and discourse is no longer important.
Jimenez then suggested that all candidates should publish their answers to all questions asked during televised debates – especially the ones that they did not attend.
While this will not let the voters see the candidates’ “fighting stance” and the answers will be subject to edits before being published, it will at least put the candidates on record and would hold them accountable for their platforms and promises to the electorate, Jimenez explained. #MatalinongBoto2019
