Senatorial candidate Larry Gadon Saturday played spoiler for Monday’s commemoration of the 33rd Anniversary of the People Power Revolution when he asked President Rodrigo Duterte to stop allocating government funds to the EDSA People Power Commission.
Gadon is running under the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan banner, a political party founded by the late President Ferdinand E. Marcos whose administration was toppled during the popular 1986 revolt.
The EPPC is a government agency tasked to “plan, organize and implement the annual commemoration of the 1986 EDSA Revolution>
Quickly reacting to Gadon’s tirade against the revolution, Anakpawis Partylist Rep. Ariel Casilao chided the senatorial candidate for being a “Marcos apologist” who is motivated at whitewashing the sins of the Marcos dictatorship.
Gadon, a lawyer, said the commemoration of the People Power revolt merely serves as a propaganda activity aimed at perpetuating the memory of “fake heroes” who started the ‘yellow’ movement in the country.
“Nananawagan ako kay Pangulong Duterte na itigil na ang pagbibigay ng milyon-milyong pondo sa EDSA Commission na iyan na ang buwis ng mga tao ay ginagamit lamang diyan sa propaganda ng mga dilawan na may mga peke na hero,” Gadon said in a video clip set to the media. (I call on President Duterte to stop giving millions in fund to the EDSA Commission because people’s taxes are merely being spent for propaganda of the “yellow” group who have bogus heroes)”
Earlier, Gadon decried the government’s continued support to the commemoration of the EDSA revolt, saying that there should be an end to such “foolishness.”
The Philippines celebrates the EDSA revolution as a national holiday every February 25.
Casilao said Gadon’s opinion about the People Power revolt has “no factual basis as history already judge his master for his crimes of corruption and rights violations.”
“The people should not take Gadon seriously, a political jester which part of his job is to help revise our history favoring the Marcoses. In this dark times, the Edsa people power, the collective effort that toppled the dictator Marcos (remains) continuously significant to this date,” said Casilao.
Casilao is a member of the Makabayan bloc that has fielded former Bayan Muna Rep. Nery Colmenares as its senatorial bet.
According to Gadon the popuolar revolt should be seen as a power grab initiated by supporters of the late President Corazon C. Aquino.
He blamed the Aquino adminsitration of being the cause of high electricity rates because she gave the Meralco franchise to her own cronies who took advantage of her rise to power to further enrich themselves. (Ben R. Rosario)
