Two universities in the Philippines were named among the top universities in the Asia-Pacific.
University of the Philippines and De La Salle University were included in The Asia-Pacific University Ranking 2019 by London-based data provider Times Higher Education which ranked more than 300 universities from 13 countries across East Asia, Southeast Asia, and Oceania.
The list released Wednesday showed that UP, the country’s premier state university, ranked 101st to 110th, a jump from its 151st to 160th ranking last year which makes the university’s overall world ranking at 501st to 600th.
Meanwhile, DLSU ranked 201st to 250th while its overall ranking is at 801st to 1000th.
The ranking body used the same rubrics and performance indicators grouped into five areas — teaching (learning environment), research (volume, income and reputation), citations (research influence), international outlook (staff, students and research) and industry income (knowledge transfer).
Tsinghua University in China topped the list and beat out the National University of Singapore which dropped to 2nd place.
University of Melbourne came in third while Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the University of Hong Kong were in fourth and fifth spots.
Japan listed the most number of schools in the rankings, with 103 of its universities featured.
