The government would pursue fugitive drug suspect Peter Lim to the ends of the earth especially after President Duterte seemed convinced he was involved in the illegal activity, Malacañang said Thursday.
Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo issued the statement a day after the President challenged Lim to just commit suicide instead of surrendering to authorities.
“Hindi ko narinig iyong sinabi niya kahapon but ng standing order naman is to pursue to the end of the world those who have violated the laws in this country [I did not hear him say that yesterday but the standing order is to pursue to the end of the world those who have violated the laws in this country],” Panelo said during a Palace press briefing about the government’s manhunt against Lim.
Panelo explained that the President probably has basis for making the stern warning against Lim, who remains at large on drug involvement charges.
“Siguro sometime ago, ‘yung sinasabi mong soft pa siya, walang masyadong ebidensiya against him – eh baka marami ng ebidensiya to convince the President that he is really behind many operations concerning drug activities,” he said.
The President earlier told Lim to kill himself or else he would be jailed for 200 years. He said Lim should not surrender to him “alive” because he will also kill him.
A local court issued an arrest order against Lim last year on charges of conspiracy to commit illegal drug trade. Lim has been on the run since.
He initially denied any drug involvement when he met the President back in 2016.
