CAMP DATU LIPUS MAKAPANDONG, Awa New Leyte, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur – An alleged communist-New People’s Army (NPA) team leader voluntarily surrendered to “Charlie Company” of the Army’s 75th Infantry (Marauder) Battalion (75th IB), a ranking Army commander in the area reported on Tuesday.
In a report to Brig. Gen. Franco Nemesio M. Gacal, commanding general of the Army’s Northeastern and Northern Mindanao 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division (4th ID), Lt. Col. Jaime R. Datuin, commanding officer of the Army’s 75th IB said the NPA team leader also yielded one US cal. 30 carbine with one magazine loaded with live ammunitions.
He yielded to the 75th IB “Charlie Company in Sitio Kalingayan, Barangay Consuelo, Bunawan, Agusan del Sur.
The identity of the rebel returnee is temporarily withheld for his safety and security. He was a regular fighter of the CPP-NPA Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee, the 75th IB commander said.
“The former NPA fighter returned to the folds of the law because of hardship in the mountains and wanted to live peacefully with his family,” Lt. Col. Datuin said.
“He left his group to return to the folds of the law, start a new life and work hand in hand with the government in achieving peace and harmonious relationship in the community,” added the 75th IB commander.
Brig. Gen. Gacal welcomed the decision of the former NPA team leader to be one with the government, said 4th ID Public Affairs Office (PAO) officer Capt. Regie H. Go.
