This time, it’s a female Iranian tourist.
More than a week after the controversial taho-throwing incident involving a female Chinese student in Mandaluyong, a 31-year-old Iranian tourist was hauled off to jail after she allegedly attacked a policeman in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro.
Supt. Socrates Faltado, spokesman of the MIMAROPA (Mindoro Oriental and Occidental, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) regional police, said the policeman identified as Police Officer 2 Ferr Henrick Mangarin also suffered cigarette burns.
He identified the arrested suspect as Fereteh Najafi Marbouyeh, who has been staying in Barangay Sto. Niño in Puerto Galera.
Faltado said that at about 1:30 a.m. Monday, barangay officials sought for help after Marbouyeh started creating trouble in a small community of foreigners. Policemen immediately responded in Barangay Poblacion of Puerto Galera.
“She was banging the vehicles of passing motorists. She was drunk based on the report of our personnel,” said Faltado.
The responding cops reportedly talked to Marbouyeh and later convinced her to go with them since the local residents were already pissed off.
“Our personnel took her to a nipa hut beside the police station. That was for her safety because some residents might harm her because of her behavior,” said Faltado.
At around 7:30 a.m., local police tried to talk to her again as they believed she was already sober.
They were wrong.
“She suddenly became violent again and cursed our policemen using a local invective,” said Faltado.
Morbouyeh reportedly tried to attack a rookie policewoman but PO2 Mangarin came to her rescue and shielded her from the suspect’s physical attack.
“This made the suspect more furious where she shoved her lighted cigarette to the hand of the victim causing the victim to be burned, and also even threw punches and kicks which were evaded by the PO2 Mangarin,” said Faltado.
Other policemen then pinned down the suspect and hauled her off to jail.
Faltado said the Marbouyeh is now facing a case if direct assault.
The incident happened more than a week after Chinese fashion student Jiale Zhang splashed a cup of taho on a policeman after she was prevented from entering the MRT Boni Station.
She was charged with three cases which include direct assault and is now facing deportation.
