Communism and socialism are passé, President Duterte recently said in his latest attempt to convince communist rebels to surrender to authorities and rejoin society.

The President asserted that Communist rebels were waging a futile rebellion that only led to atrocities against Filipinos, even as China and Russia have already moved away from Communist ideology towards democracy.

“Wala nang sosyalismo ngayon. Ang Pilipino magpatayan tayo dito, iilan lang kayo, papatay talaga kayo ng Pilipino [There is no more socialism today. Filipinos will only kill each other, how many are you left? You will just kill your fellow Filipinos],” he said during his recent visit to Bulacan.

“Communism and socialism is passé. Bahaw na. Wala na talaga [They are over],” he added.

Duterte has offered anew to shoulder the travel expenses of 10 rebels to China and Russia so they could see the changes they have adapted to spur their growth.

“Pumunta kayo ng China at papuntahin ko kayo ng Russia, ang gobyerno magbayad at tingnan ninyo gaano kaganda ‘yang mga lugar na ‘yan at they are already free market. Ibig sabihin demokrasya [You go to China, I will send you to Russia, the government will pay for your expenses, so you can how beautiful these places are. They are already free market which means democracy],” he said.

Duterte lamented that the rebels made Communist leader Jose Maria Sison as their false god even though he was just a man with a failed ideology.

He urged anew the rebels to lay down their arms, promising to provide them with housing and livelihood assistance.

“Tapos kayo dito magpakamatay kay Sison? Fifty-two years na, ni isang barangay wala kayong mag — mahahawakan [And you’ll die for Sison? It has been 52 years and you’ve not held a single barangay],” he said.

“All you have to do is lumapit ka sa pulis, babae o lalaki, sabihin mo mag-surrender ka. Gawaan kita ng bahay. Bayaran kita. Then mag-aral ka sa TESDA [All you have to do is go to a cop, woman or man, and tell you’ll surrender. I will build you a house, I will pay you and you can study at technical Education and Skills Development Authority],” he added.

The President earlier said he was not closing his door on the peace talks with the communist rebels. He noted that rebels, who were waging a futile rebellion for more than five decades, were only being deceived by Sison.

Duterte previously directed the military to destroy the rebel group as he expressed anger towards their attacks against troops and civilians. The peace talks have been formally terminated through a proclamation issued by the President in November 2017.
