Kabataan partylist Rep. Sarah Jane Elago is proposing the creation, institutionalization, and development of Youth Studies in state universities and colleges (SUCs).
She filed House Bill 9030, the proposed Youth Studies Act of 2019, to further cultivate an understanding on the role of the youth in the society.
“As State policy dictates, the role of the youth must be recognized to further instill in them the virtues of nationalism and patriotism,” she said.
“We must further understand who the youth are, what they have contributed, and what potentials they carry when it comes to nation-building and making society a better place,” Elago said
She said the primary goal of integrating Youth Studies in both undergraduate and graduate levels is to improve the understanding of students on their role in nation-building and most importantly, their role as the “hope of the nation.”
“This is to develop awareness and appreciation of the role of the youth in nation-building, Philippine society, and contributions to the community, ” she said.
Under House Bill 9030, the integration of Youth Studies shall be implemented in one state university or state college per region.
The bill mandates the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in consultation with non-governmental groups and educational institutions, to formulate the curriculum on Youth Studies.
The CHED shall also issue the implementing rules and regulations of the proposed Act.
