BUTUAN CITY – Amidst the challenges and pressing issues concerning young people in Northeastern Mindanao or Caraga region, the regional office of the Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM), together with its program partners, is intensifying its implementation of various Adolescent Health and Development (AHD) major strategies and interventions.
This month and next month, POPCOM Caraga Region 13, in partnership with the local government units (LGUs), will conduct AHD Caravan and SHAPE (Sexually Healthy and Personally Effective) Mobile Academy in Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Sur, POPCOM 13 Regional Director Alexander A. Makinano told The Manila Bulletin on Thursday.
POPCOM will showcase its major activities under the AHD like the Parent-Teen Talk, U4U Teen Trail, and AHD Film Dissemination.
The partner agencies of POPCOM in the implementation of the program will sign the Partnership Agreement on the creation and mobilization of Information and Service Delivery Network (ISDN) for AHD.
To further sustain and strengthen the AHD program interventions, the agency comes up with these new initiatives that highly promote positive and responsible sexual behaviors and effective life skills among young people to enable them to avoid the identified issues and the undesirable impact of these on their well-being, Makinano said.
POPCOM underlined the significance of these strategic interventions in addressing the different issues faced by the young people of today, like teenage pregnancy, early sexual involvement, early marriages, and other reproductive health problems such as sexually transmitted infections and HIV-AIDS, among others.
Makinano added that POPCOM’s AHD program, under the Philippine Population Management Program (PPMP), generally aims to address the needs and concerns of the young people and provide them with correct information and appropriate services that will enable them to protect their sexual and reproductive health rights.
