BUTUAN CITY – Two tectonic earthquakes jolted Siargao Island again on Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In its bulletin, Phivolcs said a 3.5 magnitude tremor was registered at 4:39 a.m. on Tuesday.
The epicenter was plotted 61 kilometers (km) northeast of General Luna, Siargao Island, Surigao del Norte province.
The tremor had a shallow depth of only 4 km, it said.
Earlier, a 3.7 magnitude earthquake was also recorded at 12:39 a.m. on the same day, Phivolcs said.
The epicenter was located 40 km northeast of General Luna town.
The tremor had a depth of only 11 km, Phivolcs said.
No tsunami alert was raised by the state agency.
The two tremors that struck Siargao Island again were all tectonic in origin and no damage or injury was reported by the agency and local disaster risk reduction and management councils (DRRMCs) there.
As of press time, there were eight tectonic mild earthquake that hits General Luna town, Siargao Island on Tuesday (Feb. 12), majority of the tremors were of a magnitude 2.9 or weaker, Phivolcs added, in its bulletin.
