Uniformed personnel from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) are now entitled for 20 percent fare discount on public utility buses (PUBs) through an agreement with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
The LTFRB and representatives from the security sector signed the memorandum of agreement on Monday granting the discount to all uniformed personnel who are in active duty in all city and provincial buses.
To avail of the discount, uniformed personnel from these agencies are only required to present a valid identification card as proof of active service.
Present in the MOA signing held at the LTFRB office in Quezon City were LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra III, AFP Deputy Chief of Staff Vice Admiral Gaudencio Collado Jr., PCG Deputy Commandant Vice Admiral Rolando Legaspi, PNP Deputy Director for Police Community Relations PCSupt. Joselito Daniel, and participating bus operators.
According to the LTFRB, the special privilege of PUB fare discounts to uniformed personnel was a directive of President Rodrigo Duterte to “honor the men and women in uniform for their exemplary service in preserving the sovereignty, national security, and peace and order of our country.”
“We salute the relentless efforts of our uniformed personnel, and the LTFRB is honored to be part of this expression of gratitude,” Delgra said.
The special fare discount for all uniformed personnel of the AFP, PNP, and PCG shall continue and remain effective indefinitely, which will then be reviewed one year thereafter.
