American nat’l, 7 others nabbed Manila buy-bust

Seven people including an American national allegedly involved in illegal drugs trade were arrested in Malate, Manila yesterday early morning.

The police identified the suspects as Camille Bernadette Banzon, 35 of Adriatico Manila; Zachary Michael Brown, 36, of Boston Massachusetts; James Hankins, 52, of Malate, Manila; Angelito Adona, 36 of Makati City; Vincent Ticson, 45 of Adriatico, Manila; Mico Alavarez, 26 of Pasay City and Jonathan De Guzman, 38, of Malate Manila.

Investigation showed that Malate Police Station (PS-9) Drug Enforcement Unit conducted a buy-bust operation against Banzon along Adriatico Street, Malate, Manila at around 4:50 a.m. on Feb.10.

Seized from the suspects were three sachets of suspected shabu, a white coin purse, and P500 buy-bust money. The pieces of evidence were turned-over to Manila Police District (MPD) Crime Laboratory for qualitative and quantitative examination.

The suspects are now detained at the Malate Police Station and appropriate charges will be filed against them for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. (Erma Edera)

Man gunned down in buy-bust operation in Muntinlupa

An illegal drug personality was killed in an armed encounter with anti-narcotics operatives during a buy-bust operation in Muntinlupa City shortly before midnight yesterday.

The suspect was identified only as a certain alias “Nog-Nog”. The suspect died on the spot after suffering from two gunshot wounds to the chest.

Investigation showed that members of the Station Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) of the Muntinlupa City Police conducted a drug sting operation at around 12:35 in the morning along PNR Site 7-C, Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

Police said that an undercover police officer successfully purchased one sachet of shabu worth P500 from the suspect.

During the transaction, the suspect then later sensed that he was transacting with police officers and pulled out a caliber. 38 revolver from his waist and shot the undercover cop but missed.

Police operatives in the area immediately retaliated and shot the suspect which led to his death. Authorities recovered the suspect’s firearm with four pieces of live ammunition, one fired cartridge and a coin purse containing five sachets of shabu.

The suspect’s body was then moved to the Our Lady of Loreto Funeral Homes in Lower Bicutan, Taguig City for autopsy. (Dhel Nazario)
