Police operations lead to arrest of 20 firearms law violators

The Southern Police District (SPD) rounded up a total of 20 persons in a 24-hour crackdown against illegal firearms in the southern metro.

According to SPD Chief, Police Chief Supt. Eliseo Cruz, the operation was made possible through the concerted efforts of the different units of SPD on the ground.

The operation aims to intensify the reduction of crimes in identified hotspot areas of the different police stations within the SPD and notorious criminals by focusing in the service of arrest warrants, search warrants, apprehension and recovery of unregistered firearms, operations against illegal drugs, during checkpoint, buy bust, oplan sita and other related law enforcement operations.

The 24-hour operation conducted by the different police stations resulted in the arrests of 20 personalities; seven from the service of search warrants, 3 from buy-bust operations and 10 from anti-criminality operations.

Police confiscated a total of 18 firearms which include a caliber .45; caliber .9mm; .38 caliber; .22 caliber, and five improvised shotguns. They also recovered 25 sachets of shabu.

All apprehended persons will be subjected to inquest proceedings while those with standing arrest warrants shall be turned-over to the court of origin. Recovered items were all brought to the respective police stations for proper disposition.

Cruz said that the police operations conducted within the 24 hours gained positive results that favorably contributed to the number of arrests and confiscation of firearms and drugs within the SPD area of responsibility.
