The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) kicks off Thursday its 2019 tax collection drive to raise at least P2.3 trillion.
BIR Commissioner Caesar R. Dulay has invited leaders of the business community as well as officers of various professional groups to attend the gathering at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City to ask for their support and assistance in the tax collection campaign.
Plaques of appreciation will be awarded during the occasion to selected corporate and individual taxpayers who increased substantially their payments in 2018 over the previous year.
Revenue regional directors and district officers from all over the country will also attend the gathering.
The P2.3 trillion collection target is roughly 13 percent higher than the goal of P2.044 trillion last year.
Records showed the bureau did not hit its 2018 collection target by about P82 billion.
Despite the shortfall, Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez described the collection as good.
“We have no collection problem as the BIR garnered 97 percent of its assignment,” the finance chief said recently.
