Acting Mayor Joy Belmonte has made an initial cash reward of P3 million to “anyone who will provide information that will lead to the arrest of the perpetrators in the brazen murders’’ of Bagong Silangan chairwoman Criselle “Beng’’ Beltran and her driver Melchor Salite.
In a statement, Belmonte condemned in the strongest possible terms the killing as she extended her “most heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones, and I assure them that we will exhaust all means to bring the perpetrators of this shameless crime to justice’’.
“I have ordered the Quezon City police headed by District Director Joselito Esquivel to personally lead the investigation and prioritize the immediate resolution of the case,’’ Belmonte said.
Belmonte assured the public that the city government and the local police will carefully “explore all the motives of the case’’ saying “this heinous crime has absolutely no place in Quezon City’’.
“In fact this is the first crime of its kind in Quezon City in recent history, and we will do all we can to make sure it is the last. As long as I – and my fellow public servants – live, I will make sure that our city will never become a hotspot for political violence,’’ she added.
Beltran and Salita were killed while four of their companions also on board survived the ambush as their SUV was cruising along J.P. Rizal Street near Filinvest 2 in Barangay Silangan last Wednesday.
