Acharon seeks permission from Sandiganbayan to go on pilgrimage to Holy Land

By Czarina Nicole Ong

South Cotabato Rep. Pedro Acharon Jr. is asking permission from the Sandiganbayan Seventh Division to travel to Jordan, Israel and Egypt from February 14 to 28, 2019.

Acharon will be joining a Holy Land tour, and while there, he hopes to use the opportunity to meet with members of the Filipino community. He will be travelling with his wife, Rosalinda Acharon.

They will first travel to Jordan from February 14 to 16, followed by Israel on February 17. The Acharon couple will then head to Egypt on February 22 before heading back to the country on February 26.

“The accused has no intention whatsoever to evade from the prosecution of the above entitled case nor has any intention of absconding from the jurisdiction of the honorable court which he duly recognized since the commencement of the proceedings,” Acharon said in his travel motion.

Acharon is facing a graft charge in connection with the anomalous cash advances amounting to P1,500,000 and P1,000,000 on May 25, 2006, which was reportedly for the “Pagana Dinner Show and Tambayayong Festival” in Los Angeles, California from June 9 to 16, 2006.

According to his rap sheet, Acharon knew fully well that the amount was intended for 37 individuals, but only 17 were able to participate. As a result, Acharon caused undue injury to the government in the said amount. He was still the mayor of General Santos City when that happened.
