DARAGA, Albay – Vice Mayor Victor Perete is set to assume the post of mayor here, following an order from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) regional office to replace detained Mayor Carlwyn ‘Awin’ Baldo due to his temporary incapacity to perform duties and responsibilities as chief executive.
The order mandating the Succession to the Office of the Mayor” dated January 25, 2019 was received around 6 p.m. by Perete. He has to replace Baldo within 48 hours.
The order stated that the DILG Bicol was being directed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) regional office here to implement the rule of succession in the municipality of Daraga as embodied under Section 46(a) of the Local Government Code.
“In view of the above directive and taking into account the reports from PNP-CIDG and MPS Daraga stating that Mayor Carlwyn Baldo is under detention and is thus, temporarily incapacitated to perform duties of his office, immediately upon receipt or tender of this Memorandum, you may already assume as ACTING MAYOR of tour municipality in accordance with Section 46 of Republic Act 7160 or the Local Government Code of 1991”, the memorandum stated.
In an interview with The Manila Bulletin, Perete said that he can already assume post on Saturday, but added it would be better to do so on Monday.
“Na-recieve ko na, syempre magre-react tayo dun sa, within 48 hours kasi dapat mag-assume. Upon receipt yun. Na-recieve ko yun kanina, mga bandang ala sais ng gabi. Pero bukas pwede na,” Perete said.
(I received it already, so I have to act on it within 48 hours, that’s when I have to assume the post. That’s upon receipt. I received it around 6 p.m. earlier. But tomorrow I can already assume the post)
Once he has assumes the post, Perete said he will prioritize the decongestion of traffic in Daraga.
“Bigyan natin ng prayoridad yung trapiko. Alam mo naman, grabe ang trapik,” Perete told The Manila Bulletin.
(We have to give priority to the traffic. As you know, the traffic here is already bad)
Perete will be the third mayor of Daraga in just three years.
In May 2018, elected Mayor Jerry Jaucian died of a heart attack, and was replaced by the then elected Vice Mayor Carlwyn Baldo.
Baldo has been arrested for illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and explosive last week. He is also being tagged as mastermind in the killing of Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Rodel M. Batocabe and his police escort SPO2 Orlando Diaz.
Meanwhile, the son of the late Mayor Jerry Jaucian, Jerry Rafael, will also assume as the new Daraga vice mayor.
