To ease traffic along Elliptical Road, a portion of North Avenue in Quezon City will be closed to vehicular traffic starting Tuesday at 6 a.m.
This was announced by Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Jose Arturo Garcia during a press briefing Monday afternoon.
“From North Avenue, turn right at Agham Road, turn left at Quezon Avenue to Quezon Memorial Circle to destination,” he advised motorists travelling from North Avenue to Quezon Memorial Circle.
As per MMDA data, heavy traffic forms when vehicles coming from North Avenue and those traversing along the Elliptical Road merge.
Vehicle volume count from the MMDA Traffic Engineering Center showed that 8,728 vehicles traverse the Elliptical Road-Quezon Memorial Circle while 1,419 vehicles traverse from North Avenue to Quezon Memorial Circle during morning rush hour.
Garcia said: “We want to address the chokepoint area on the Elliptical Road with this road closure.”
He said the dry run of the yellow lane policy along Elliptical Road will push through this week. “Starting Monday, we will start apprehending violators through the no contact apprehension policy.”
Under the no contact apprehension policy (NCAP), MMDA uses closed-circuit television cameras to apprehend violators. “We will use NCAP in order not to cause traffic congestion. If we flag down violators, that will cause traffic congestion, and we do not want that.”
